Hi, my name is Megan and I want to share the story about my sister Niki and my Brother-in-law Zac. My Brother-in-law Zac was recently diagnosed in March of 2017 with FTD!
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the clinical presentation of frontotemporal lobar degeneration, which is characterized by progressive neuronal loss predominantly involving the frontal or temporal lobes, and typical loss of over 70% of spindle neurons, while other neuron types remain intact.

You're probably saying you've never heard of this! We had never heard of it either. Last year we really started to notice his personality changes, we didn't think too much into it, let alone we never imagined this diagnosis. Their is NO CURE! He was ordered to take a leave of absence from work when they first started running tests for different things in January. He hasn't worked since January 2017 and the Drs said no more driving. What?!? How do you go to work to Downtown Cleveland everyday for years and then bamm.... No more work no more driving!?! Keep in mind this was months before the final diagnosis. My sister is a RN, but with 4 kids, her main job has been to be a mom first. Lots of changes have happened since his diagnosis, each month it became more evident he was getting worse. The last couple months we have seen dramatic changes in his memory and personality. He was hospitalized back in October for 2 weeks and at that point.. The Drs recommended my sister have him placed in a facility (nursing home) that could care for him and his needs of 24/7 care. Against Dr recommendation, She brought him home, she wasn't ready to give up.... and how do you explain this all to 4 children... Daddy went to the hospital and he's not coming home ever again!!! So, he came home..... Things have been very up and down and unpredictable.... It's a day to day thing.

The Drs have again, as of last week, stressed the importance of getting him out of the house and into a home ASAP that can give him the care he needs and deserves. It's just too much for Niki to handle and she has to take care of 4 children, ages 13, 8, 6 & 5. The girls will soon be learning to live without Daddy in the house.... He is being moved to a nursing home this Thursday. So much is happening so fast!! This will be their first Christmas to wake up without Daddy!! I'm sure this is going to affect them all in different ways. Life isn't fair sometimes and my heart breaks from them. My wish for them is to "just be kids"!!

By helping Niki, we are helping the girls not see mommy struggle so much. Unfortunately Niki hasn't been able to work much this year... She's been Zac's primary care taker and well she doesn't get paid for that.... They are limited on funds and funds will be running out very soon. Everything and anything you can donate is much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Merry Christmas Everyone!!! Xoxo
