The Winter of Discontent (Documentary)

Donation protected
I have been making short documentary-style videos (10-25mins) in length for many years now. I have focused on social issues, national as well as geopolitics and a host of other topics. As my channels have been demonetised for years, I am asking for help getting my proposed team funded to document this tumultuous winter.

I believe that we have reached a perfect storm in the course of human history with the intersection of cascading crises that began in 2020 with the worldwide COVID pandemic response but are now percolating to a boiling point.

The social and economic costs of the past two years are now spiralling out of control and are now affecting every aspect of life across the globe, but in particular, the countries of the EU (+ the UK) are being hit the hardest. With already runaway inflation, broken supply chains and growing social-economic discontent, the issue of energy and the crisis of the cost of living is bringing about a confluence of dire social issues that are now unfolding.

The project that I am proposing, entitled the "Winter of Discontent" will focus not only on the issues that are creating social and economic crises in the world but look at Eastern Europe in particular. With a three-man team, I look to document what will be seen in hindsight as the largest social upheaval since the fall of the Soviet Union. In both Europe and beyond, but bring the voices ignored to the forefront as we are now seeing a total media blackout on the protests raging across the continent.

The three-man team will include a support crew of camera and audio experts - that can also liaise with local groups and individuals on the ground. We are looking to zero in on the hot spots of Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and possibly Brussels but also cover how the growing migrant crisis in Turkey is exacerbating tensions in that country. Also, how this situation could easily spill over into the EU at a time when the bloc would least be able to handle another massive influx of people.

This project will look at both sides, from the rise of the right in several countries over the past year as well as the political reasons that governments are forcing austerity upon their populaces.

To this end, I have costed what could be considered the cheapest documentary ever produced, with myself as producer, editor and director, and gimble camera operator.

Costs that would be incurred (three-man team):

Travel costs
Short inter-Europe flights/Trains/Buses, Car Rentals, etc.

Also, miscellaneous costs as not yet considered.

Already costed and not included
