The WildCat Plan: MSS Grad 2021 Solar System

Tax deductible

We are the Mount Sentinel Green Team and we have been passionate about making a significant impact on our schools climate footprint since we all arrived at Mount Sentinel in grade 7.

We are graduating and leaving a legacy that allows every student at our school to feel like they can help make a real impact at improving our future through fundraising panels for our rooftop solar system.

Obviously this year is a #sadgrad and quite a bit different than a normal grade 12 experience. We want to use this as an opportunity to spread some sunshine and leave a legacy to inspire every student in our building for years to come.

HOW IT WORKS

Our School Board, SD8 Kootenay Lake , has provided the funding to cover the costs of planning/executing, permitting, and planning and rooftop mounting of  large solar system. The biggest obstacle for schools to enact this type of system is the upfront investment.

Our plan allows our district to invest a relatively small amount of money (27,000) to set up the entire system and then allows students to provide the panels that will provide instant payback for the initial investment.

If we are able to fundraise the entire ~190 panel system over the next several years our school will reduce is electricity usage by 45-50% and will save our school district 300,000 dollars.

This keeps the school district spending dollars on what has helped us design this project - Education - and at the same time helps us make an impact.

What We Need From You

1) Donations! Every 250 dollars pays for a new panel on our building and gets us closer to our goal of 190 panels (approx.) and 60KW power generation. Please share, contribute what you can, and spread the good word!

2) Are you a student? Reach out to us and we can help you propose the same plan to your school board. Our goal is to change the way we look at these investments and empower students with a model that allows them to actively improve their community at home and beyond.

If you want to know how to do this in your own school please reach out to [email redacted] (our teacher sponsor) and he will put you in touch with us to explain how it works!
