The WIG Society | Wit Invention Gallant

Europe’s latest innovative Chamber Music Ensemble

Four leading young musicians founded the Wig Society in 2020 during the pandemic, in order to combine historical music with a historical atmosphere. The ensemble strives to revive fantastic lesser known, and well-known, works by prolific composers from the late 18th century and early 19th century, using period instruments. Their desire is to recreate the fun, social, atmospheric ambience of the salons in which such classical, gallant, and early romantic chamber music works premiered.

The WIG Society offers a new and alternative performance experience inspired by the musical setting of a bygone era, and has cut the cord of placing fun chamber music in a non-sociable, rigid, and static environment. Of course, every chamber piece ranges from the champagne-popping Mozart works, to the Sturm und Drang of the valiant early romanticism, and we want to offer our audiences this experience of salon era society once more – why not drink a glass of wine and share cake, like the good old days, whilst enjoying the fabulous music, stunning wigs, and pompadour fashion The WIG Society has to offer. From cake-filled 18th century parties with Marie Antoinette, to the dramatic parlours of discussion, invention, and science of the 19th century.

As you know, 2020 has been an incredibly difficult time for musicians and artists alike; our concerts have all been cancelled until further notice, but our drive and inspiration hasn’t stopped – we wish to create our Roccoco party ambience for you all at home, and we are raising funds for our premiere performance video. Our first video, of course, will absolutely be in the WIG style – a scripted Haydn quartet with a storyline of fun and humour to fulfil your Rococo needs! Our second video will be a flourishing Mozart Flute quartet to reflect the ensemble’s valiant flair, and more elegant side. The making of a video not only involves just musicians and a camera, but a team of sound engineers, videographers, rehearsals, and costume hire, which our budget reflects, and will take place in the charming Coudenberg Palace in Brussels. The WIG Society is here to present the most exquisite music in a never-before, in our lifetime, concert atmosphere. We’re sure we’ll wet your appetite for our up-coming world premiere recording of some previously unrecorded, ingenious, and broadly characterful chamber music from the early romanticism…

BIOGRAPHY

Founded in 2020 in Brussels, The WIG Society is formed by pioneering musicians from across Europe, with the united endeavour to unearth, rediscover, and give life to lesser-known chamber and orchestral works from the age of enlightenment into the romanticism, alongside performing works by famous composers such as Mozart and Haydn.
