THE WHITE BRICK GALLERY
150 Livernois, Ferndale, MI
The White Brick Gallery is a new art space in Ferndale, MI that will run from June 2019 - June 2020, featuring emerging and early career artists from Detroit and beyond.
Founded by Detroit-based artists, curators, and Cranbrook Academy of Art Alums Thea Reid and Jessica Hayworth (MFAs Print Media 2016).
Our artistic partnership began as studio mates at Cranbrook Academy of Art. It was during a Cranbrook trip to Los Angeles, sitting in the alley of a bar called “bar” on the night of David Bowie’s death, that we first conceived of running a gallery together. Over the course of the next year we spent countless hours developing this idea and curating imagined exhibitions with artists/peers whose work seemed to resonate deeply with both of us.

This June, three years out of graduate school, we will be opening our doors and unveiling The White Brick Gallery! Many of you have watched our art and careers develop over the years. This gallery is our chance to showcase our shared vision of thoughtful, idiosyncratic, beautiful, and deeply strange work. We have a wonderful group of artists on board and we’re so excited to share their work with you over the course of the next year.
The culmination of this limited-term project will be a comprehensive catalogue of exhibitions, including artist interviews and documentation. This is intended to preserve for posterity not only the gallery, but this moment in the lives of our artists, their work, and their words.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a beautiful 1200 sq ft space donated to us for one year, but in order to reach the full potential of this project we need your help! 100% of proceeds from this campaign will go toward the practical necessities of running a gallery and making it the best that it can be. We have a tight timeline, tight resources, and high standards, but we are doing this because there’s nothing else in the world we’d rather do more.
Proceeds of this campaign will fund:
$300 licenses and permits
$1000 insurance
$350 signage
$3000 utilities and internet
$1000 paint and gallery supplies (plinths, lightbulbs, hanging supplies)
$1200 opening costs (food/beverage for 12 openings)
$1000 printed materials (flyers, vinyl cut lettering, business cards)
$190 website and domain name
$5000 shipping and transport
$13, 040 Total
Any amount beyond this goal will go towards funding special projects such as our catalogue, mural project, and outdoor installations.
