The Wheelchair Trust of Surfers Sunrise

So we have some 1,700 homeless people on the Gold Coast.
(That’s about 8 times the capacity of a standard cinema theatre)

This will do something about it.  You can help, via the Wheelchair Trust of the Surfers Sunrise Rotary Club and Rosies.
(Yes, we are not just making wheelchairs!)

About a year ago, an idea germinated within the Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise: What can we do to actively assist the hundreds of homeless people living on our streets?
Des La Rance OAM
(famous for his design to make wheelchairs from discarded bicycles, suitable for disabled children in developing countries - over 9,000 sent out so far) designed a small, mobile shelter unit. After many enhancements to the design, we now have the result: a fully developed prototype which we simply call the ‘Sleeping Sanctuary’.
Our indefatigable Councillor Dawn Crichlow referred us to Kathleen Vlasic, head of the highly respected Charity ‘Rosies’ in Southport.  To start, we look to making 20 of them.  Rosies will organize the distribution.  Whilst the initial development cost was over $1,000, once a production line has been set up, we should be able to procure the materials for about $700.  All labour and administration is done by volunteers at the Rotary Club’s Project Shed – no overheads!

We need to get on with this now; the need is very profound. Can you assist?
