The Waiting: A New Folk Musical

The Waiting is a new original folk musical centered around a widowed mother, Chlo Evans, following the disappearance of her young daughter, Willow. The show explores the ubiquitous question of where we go after we die and seeks to answer how we find peace and move forward after unimaginable loss.

Over the past few years, the entire world has become deeply acquainted with loss, and the impact of the pandemic has immensely shaped our writing. We realize now that our story is more necessary to tell than ever. Not only is the theme of grief important, but we are also seeking to improve diversity in musical theater. Women have written only 8% of Broadway musicals in the past ten years, and our perspectives as female-identifying writers have profoundly influenced our work. We seek to create a safe space for queer artists and improve the representation of trans and non-binary creatives.

We’ve now workshopped our show five times - from zoomsicals, concerts in New York City and Maine, to our fully staged workshop production at the SheNYC festival. We’ve learned so much about storytelling and theatre-making, and are excited to siphon our momentum from this past year into more outstanding accomplishments in 2023.

We are looking to do some workshops in the spring and an out-of-town workshop in the fall. It takes a village to make a musical, and we need your help!
