The Villamil Family

It is with a heavy heart that I pass along some tragic news involving two of our FIFA Front Office teammates in Manila. On January 28th, TELUS International Philippines team members and brothers, Francisco Antonio Villamil and Tyrone Voltaire Villamil, died in a tragic drowning accident.
While on a personal trip to the beach in Batangas, Philippines with other PureFibre-FIFA team members, Francisco and Tyrone tried to help another swimmer who was experiencing a leg cramp. Sadly while attempting the rescue, they were caught in a rip current and succumbed to exhaustion. Anyone who knew Francisco or Tyrone would not be surprised that they would not have hesitated to help a person in need – even if it meant risking their own lives.
We of course are shocked and saddened by this devastating news. In recent weeks, TELUS has offered assistance to the Villamil family, and our colleagues in Manila have received counselling to help them through this extraordinarily difficult time.
Having personally had the opportunity to visit our FIFA teams in Manila as recently as this past December along with several of our team members that were there to deliver training, I can tell you that the bonds of friendship established across our teams in that campus run incredibly deep. Indeed one of the highlights of my trip was witnessing firsthand the incredible culture built on the foundation of spirited teamwork that they have developed, because it felt so much like what we have established within our group across our 3 campuses in Canada.
With that Spirited Teamwork in mind, and knowing that we are extremely fortunate to work and live in a country like Canada, a memorial fund through a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Villamil family has been created. If you are in any position to make a donation, in any amount, it would be greatly appreciated.
The GoFundMe site will remain open until end of Day on Friday March 2nd, after which arrangements will be made to present the Villamil family with all of the money we have collected.
