First off let me say thank you for taking the time to click this link and read about the campaign we are starting. Please bare with us as we have never done a GoFundMe campaign before. Be on the look out for updates and changes to this campaign as we move forward.
As many of you may know my mom Vergie Lightfoot is a full time artist and has a business selling her work all over the world to different collectors and show rooms. On April 28, 2020 she was diagnosed with Lymphoma Myeloma. It is a form of blood cancer that has taken over her lymphatic system.
Last December Vergie was diagnosed with inoperable tumors in her C4 & C5 neck bones. At that time they found additional tumors in her Lymphatic system. Because of the recent COVID 19 Pandemic her biopsies were postponed & rescheduled three times. Her biopsies were finally done on April 20th. During the wait time Vergie has had multiple trips to the ER for Pain, put on morphine drips and a few other pushed meds.
We found out April 28th that she was diagnosed with Lymphoma Myeloma Cancer. Its a type of blood cancer. Vergie will begin chemo in two weeks and will be repeating treatment for the next 6 months.
At the beginning of the year it looked bright. As a full time artist her entire year was booked and then poof; all orders for the year were cancelled because of the COVID 19 virus and quarentine.
Vergie has been hit with a triple wammy, No income, cancer and the COVID 19 virus. This on top of the chronic diseases she is already battling with. She is terrified of whats coming next.
Thankfully Vergies neighbor's and friends have stepped up and offered help with all the things we take for granted in our day to day lives. Cooking, cleaning, pet care, errands etc. She is going to attempt to complete all the works she currently has in process that have not been cancelled. Once those collections are complete that will be it for 2020 and possibly beyond. There is no way to know what my moms energy levels will be or how fast she can get her collections done or create new pieces.
On behalf of myself, my wife Krista and the rest of the Lightfoot family we are asking for help. Help to keep the lights on and the bills paid. We don't yet know what the outcome of all this will be or for how long it will last. What is for sure is that once Vergie starts her chemo treatments she will not be able to continue working and provide a stable income for her household. We are looking into other means to keep her afloat but for now we are establishing this GoFundMe page to get her started so that she doesn't have to worry about whether or not she can keep her everyday bills paid.
Because of the support of our family and friends and collectors. My mom, Vergie lightfoot has been able to fulfill her dream of being a professional artist for over 30 years. This new reality is difficult to accept for all of us but we hope that we have the stamina, the strength and faith to endure the treatment process and whats to come in the months ahead.
