The Ventilator Project [COVID-19]

The Ventilator Project - to help the world breathe in a time of crisis.

In Boston, two robotic entrepreneurs have paused their companies to lend a hand in the immediate global health crisis. It is quickly becoming clear that COVID-19 is extremely serious. People are getting sick at an alarming rate and the US healthcare system is not ready; the world is not ready.

Covid-19 is projected to cause a shortage of 600k ventilators in the United States alone. The global need is around 13 Million units as a conservative estimate. There has been no solution that can effectively meet this need, and thousands of people are dying because of it.

The Ventilator Project's team of engineers have created a functional prototype that meets the immediate needs of Covid-19 patients. Our product is specifically designed to be rapidly sourced, manufactured, and distributed at a low cost.

We are a non-profit company, bringing together the best minds (200+ volunteers) to help address the extreme ventilator shortage and bring our solution to market in the next 30 days.

What makes us different?

Supply-Chain First Approach - Ensuring components are easily sourcable at scale by avoiding medical supply constraints

Agility and Start-Up Culture - Larger corporations and institutions have bureaucracy, we can adapt and change quickly

Non-Profit Status - Access to volunteers and resources otherwise not available

We are not working against other teams, we are working against the clock. The sooner we get our product to market the sooner we can start to save lives.

We are extremely grateful and humbled by all the support (resources, time, donations and partnerships) over the past few weeks to get us to where we are today. Our team is working around the clock.

We need 100K in the next 10 days to finish testing for FDA approval.  We believe with your support we can save countless lives and help those in need breathe again.

More About The Founders & The Team:

Tyler Mantel

Tyler Mantel, a Techstars alumni, is an engineer that is passionate about using technology to help the world. Currently, he is CEO and founder of Watertower Robotics, where he leverages his Mechanical and Chemical Engineering degrees to create robotic technology to help water utilities save water and fight climate change.

After graduating from Purdue University, Tyler started his career working as a field engineer for Schlumberger in 2013. From there he went on to create 3 companies spanning waste management, logistics, and water infrastructure conservation. Tyler’s drive to create, enthusiasm to help, and entrepreneurial skill has brought him to found The Ventilator Project with Alex Frost

Alex Frost

Alex Frost is a multinational executive who has started six companies over the last two decades spanning retail, media, software, and robotics. His passion for redesigning existing technologies led him to Boston to start FloraBot in 2019.

Alex is excited to bring his passion to build successful businesses to co-found The Ventilator Project in an effort to solve an issue affecting the global human population.

The Team

Over the past few weeks, Tyler and Alex have put together an incredible team to support their mission. They have seen tremendous enthusiasm from their peers and all those they’ve contacted. One of their volunteer engineers drove over 14 hours from Kentucky to Boston immediately after receiving our call. There has been 4 iterations we've built upon and have been working extreme hours to get to where we are today.  Our co-founders have assembled a diverse team of over 200 volunteers that includes 60+ engineers, 10+ medical professionals, and a support team from Latham and Watkins as well as other key partners. This team has the intellectual capacity and capability to properly design an easily sourced and manufacturable ventilator in order to save lives.
