The Trucker Advocate

My name is Scott Reed, and I am an owner-operator. I also advocate for the rights, safety and fair treatment of truck drivers all across the country. I travel to Washington, D.C., monthly for a week at a time, putting feet to the ground pounding pavement for you. My biggest mission at the moment is the overturning of the FMCSA’s Electronic Loggin Device mandate, and pushing for the overhaul of Hours Of Service, but I am also raising awareness of the deleterious safety effects of the proposed speed limiter mandate, the need for driver training and the impact of emissions regulations that have proved fundamentally to the downside of safe and efficiently operating truck equipment, along with keeping an ear out for possible bills that will effect us and confronting them. I’ve been to Washington already – and I did it at my expense, and had great success with who I've met. I have had a couple people ask about donating to help with expenses, given truckers know that when my truck’s wheels don’t turn, I don’t earn. Hotels are expensive, of course, though I try to find the least expensive options. There is train travel, and sometimes you have to meet people after hours.

I don’t claim to be the greatest advocate out there, or that I'm gonna change the industry single-handedly, but I do offer a promise: I will give my whole heart and dedication to getting the information to the right people face to face. I promise to make the trip once a month and keep in contact with those who care about us as drivers. I promise to give it my all: to advocate for thing that will make our industry safer and at once more profitable for drivers. Like the business motto that John Daniels at Long Haul Trucking has referenced in the past: Running on promises kept. I will go to Washington once a month regardless if any one supports me or not. Sleep in car pack ramen noodles whatever it takes. My current health issues have made for a large set back but this is my life. And this is what I know and love. So I'm gonna stand and fight for what I believe in.

I love trucking, and I am tired of getting pushed around by the likes of the ATA and the Trucking Alliance. It's time to take a stand, and that's what I'm attempting to do with this effort in Washington, D.C. Every little bit helps.
