The Susie V Foundation’s mission is to help further research for those affected by
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and provide scholarship and grant opportunities for local students. This foundation honors the legacy and values of Mrs. Susie Hertler VanVranken, a former teacher and lifelong supporter of North Canton. Susie's impact on North Canton and North Canton City Schools has been second to none. She dedicated herself to ensuring that students, young and old, were the top priority no matter the circumstances, proving that her roots ran much deeper than just those sitting in her classroom. As a member of several committees and a role model to all within the school district, she continued her excellent service after her tenure in the classroom by serving on the local school board. Susie was unfortunately diagnosed with ALS in 2019, and due to the impact of the illness she has removed herself from directly serving on these committees.
As an inspiration to countless students, teachers, parents, administrators and more, this foundation will aim to continue Susie’s dedication and passion among the community and her belief in the "Three A's"; athletics, academics and arts. This campaign's goal is set to create a foundation that will have the opportunity to award grants for school programs, select students and athletes alike for scholarships, contribute to further and more sophisticated ALS research for development of treatments, and continue to serve the community in the best possible way.
