The Suppliants: An age-old Injustice

Donation protected
We are raising money for our Workshop Production show ‘The Suppliants’, which we are showcasing on 14 & 15 January 2021. It is a Greek tragedy set in modern times about women refugees fleeing from their home in Egypt to escape forced marriage to their cousins. This is a multimedia performance with puppetry, music and videos.

We will be including sections of devised theatre that have been created by the cast, which tell individual, verbatim refugee stories, and have been incorporated into the main story at poignant moments of the play. These refugee stories are current, which shows how the topical issues explored in the play surrounding refugees are still all too relevant today.

Crowdfunding is essential for our production to go ahead. We would normally hold bake sales and other activities to raise money however, due to COVID19 restrictions this is not possible. The money raised is predominantly for costume, hair and makeup. Unfortunately, our University has been unable to provide us with rehearsal space before the Christmas break, so we have had to source this elsewhere and cover the cost ourselves.

This is a collaborative project between the BA2 students on the Acting for Stage and Media degree at UWL and the HE Course Leader Catherine Trenchfield. We are all working hard to make this an exciting performance, one that we hope to perform to an audience, even a reduced one. For those unable to attend in person, our performance will be live streamed from the Arthur Cotterell Threatre.

Any support is greatly appreciated.
