The Sues Threw You Out Moving Costs Fund

On 11/5/2019, Sacramento County had the opportunity to save many residents from displacement and homelessness by passing a No Eviction Moratorium.
We have seen up and down the state, renters being given 60-day notices in response to the upcoming protection AB 1482 would bring. Landlords are doing this as an attempt to raise rents before a statewide rent increase cap goes into effect on January 1, 2020. Instead of following the states lead in addressing the housing crisis, we are now set back with less protection than many tenants across the state.
Dozens of renters, organizations, and service providers stepped up to the mic and gave their battle cry to the board. It fell on deaf ears when it came to Supervisors Sue Frost and Susan Peters. 6 complexes from Peters district came out, but she said she didn't receive any calls the days prior(See our current call campaign). Frost spoke from her position of a landlord and just couldn't bring herself to vote on this because she believes everyone has the opportunity to own a home.
Simply, because of this decision made by "The Sues", many tenants across Sacramento County are now facing an eviction that they could have been saved from. This is a county that is in the middle of a housing crisis.
The Sacramento Tenants Union is sponsoring this fundraiser in an attempt to remedy some of this burden by helping with moving costs. When people are displaced from their homes, they are on a whim supposed to come up 1st and last months rent, deposit, background and credit checks, moving costs, loss of work, and all of the things that devastation like this brings.
