The Story Of Katy Stone - A Ukrainian Therapist

Hi there my name is Yasmin Shaheen-Zaffar I am a qualified counsellor and also founder of Watoto Play Ltd. I have set up this fundraising page to help a Ukrainian National & her family & her friends who live in Ukraine and are currently facing the destruction the war has sadly brought. I see the suffering of mothers on both sides of this tragic war.

The name of the person for  I am raising funds for and as I endearingly know her - is Katy Stone. Katy is a creative & trauma therapist in Ukraine. For many years she has worked for the Ministry for Holokost survivors on the South of Ukraine and works for EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs

Over the last 10 months during the pandemic I developed a friendship through Facebook with Katy through a mutual love & appreciation of Creative Therapy.

 

I myself as a Creative Therapist am in awe of Katy’s stones she paints and her cards which she uses in the therapeutic process. Despite my lack of Ukrainian language skills we developed an appreciation of each other’s skill sets & we both during the pandemic recognised the issue of delivering creative interventions online.

 

So far I have been able to speak to Katy daily via voice memos. We don’t know how much longer this is possible.

 

What I do know that as a qualified therapist - Katie has supported 100’s of people through challenging & difficult times.

 

This fundraiser is to support Katie, her family & friends over the coming months. To also help ensure that Katy will be able to continue helping people in the way she does through her therapeutic work. To work out ways  therapists & counsellors across the world can support Ukrainian therapists support those affected by this War. Intergenerational trauma is real and must be addressed.
