The Stamp Our Story Committee Film and Education

Hi, my name is Wayne, and I am fundraising for the Stamp Our Story Committee. For over a decade, the Committee rallied communities across the country and even in France to support the creation of the US commemorative postage stamp that would honor the Japanese American men and women who served in the US Army during World War 2. They were the Nisei ("second-generation") children of parents who immigrated from Japan. After Japan attacked the US, many lawmakers and citizens were worried about Americans of Japanese heritage like the Nisei (even if they were American citizens by birthright). In a show of their American loyalty, over 33,000 Nisei men and women enlisted during the war and were exemplary in every way. They served mainly in the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service (MIS), 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion, Women's Army Corps, and Cadet Nurse Corps. The 100th/442nd became the most decorated unit in US history for its size and length of service. The MIS used their Japanese language skills to defeat Japan, and they are credited with shortening the war by at least 2 years, and saving countless lives in the process. They were also critical in helping rebuild Japan during the US occupation. Persuaded by the Committee that this stamp subject is worthy of commemoration, the US Postal Service issued the Go For Broke: Japanese American Soldiers of WW2 Forever postage stamp in 2021. "Go for broke" means to "give it everything you've got" as you go for your goals, and it was originally the motto of the 100th/442nd. "Go For Broke Soldiers" is now used to describe all of the American men and women of Japanese heritage who served in the war. An award-winning short documentary film "Stamp Our Story: Honoring America's Nisei Veterans" was created in 2022, and it is being submitted in film festivals across the country in 2023-24. The Committee volunteers to speak at community events and in school classrooms to help preserve the story of the Go For Broke Soldiers. Another goal of the Committee is to provide a sheet of Stamp Our Story Website
stamps for every teacher that wants to bring the story into their classroom. Proceeds of this fundraiser will go toward the costs of these programs. Thank you!
