The South Central Wellness Fund
The South Central Run Club uses our bodies to promote a culture of wellness in South Central. Last year, we launched our South Central Wellness Fund to coincide with our first Annual F*** White Supremacy 5K to address the detrimental impacts of white supremacy on the wellness of the South Central community. Through ticket and t-shirt sales, we raised over $200. Our captains believe South Central needs more, so we aim to reach our goal of $1000 by December 2022.
Our South Central Wellness Fund gathers resources to reify a reality of wellness in the community by addressing:
• the fact that members of the South Central community lack resources to address their personal wellness needs
• and the reality that financial aid that could help people in South Central afford to pay for their wellness needs are difficult to access
South Central Run Club recognizes that what constitutes a wellness need varies from person to person, and that financial assistance are typically given those seeking aid from the Western medical industry and state-sanctioned biological health programs. These require qualifications that often reinforce marginalization of the community of South Central by outsourcing our opportunities and care and grow with one another and creating barriers between wellness and undocumented people.
For these reason, SCRC has created the South Central Wellness Fund as an opportunity for the South Central community to have a conversation and around what is needed to be well beyond traditional modes of wellness set by American medical and pharmaceutical industries. We’d like to assist our community in our own healing.
This fund will support 3-6 people who will:
⁃ share their wellness story
⁃ identify their wellness need
⁃ and share how they’d like to spend the money
We anticipate applicants whose wellness needs might include a massage, a reiki session, a self-care date night, to a staycation. Our wellness fund is intended to nourish confidence in our community’s ability to care for themselves.
