<div>Hi, my name is Bailie, and I am fundraising for Doug Slade. Doug came into my best friend Tues-Daes life a few years ago and quickly became a monumental presence—one of those people who leave a mark on everyone they meet.

<div>On November 15, 2024, I received a message from Tues-Dae letting me know that she and Doug were in the Emergency Room.
</div>

<div>It was assumed that he had a kidney stone but that quickly turned to emergency bowel surgery to remove a blockage. Shortly after, tests confirmed cancer, diagnosed as Stage 3.
</div>

</div>
<div>In January 2025, he began 25 radiation treatments in Vancouver and then oral chemotherapy, followed by ongoing IV chemotherapy in Fort St. John.
</div>
<div>In September 2025, he travelled to Vancouver for tumor removal. The operation faced complications, and a 2nd Surgeon was brought in to help finish the complex surgery. With complications and blood loss, Doug spent two-days in ICU to stabilize his blood pressure. The tumor was successfully removed, leaving him with a temporary ileostomy to allow healing before reversal.

<div>Later tests showed signs of spread within the walls of the rectum, meaning full removal of the rectum would be needed.
</div>

</div>
<div>Now, at the end of November 2025, a 3rd surgery with a team of surgeons in Vancouver was required to remove the rectum leaving him with an end colostomy forever.
</div>

</div>
<div>Unfortunately, partway into this surgery, the surgeons had to abort the plan as they found cancer in three other areas. His pelvis, small bowel, and stomach wall. They continued on reversing Doug’s ileostomy and replaced with a colostomy, greatly improving his energy.
</div>

<div>The next steps include new scans and a new round of chemotherapy to directly target these small areas. Although it is the holiday season, Doug is now entering his second year of treatment and preparing for the next major phase of his fight.
</div>

<div>Doug is a loving, hardworking, and deeply giving man who has spent his life showing up for others. I know it’s a tough ask, especially at Christmas time, but this will be their second Christmas with Doug being sick, and realistically, he has a long road of treatment still coming. Travel, medications, recovery, and ongoing care have been hugely overwhelming. Doug has spent his whole life showing up for others—now it’s our turn to show up for him. Even the smallest bit helps. Truly, everything matters, and every dollar would be a great gift.
