<div>Australia loves coffee and our theatre team is no different! The reality of that is we are putting 2 BILLION disposable cups into land fill every year. Many cups are made from recycled or plant based materials and theoretically are compostable. This sounds wonderful except these cups take a very long time to break down. So much so that Industrial composters refuse to process disposable coffee cups because they are not economically viable! So, where do these cups end up? That’s right - landfill!

<div>The problem is, cups made from plant based materials need oxygen to break down. However, due to the layering and compression of our ever increasing landfill, the cups break down anaerobically and produce methane (one of the world’s WORST greenhouse gases!)

<div>The Periopertive Environmental and Innovative Sustainability group (P.E.n.I.S) would love to reduce our contribution to this ever increasing global problem.

<div>We have found a company (rCUP) that recycles disposable coffee cups and manufactures them into non disposable one’s. We would love to buy a heap of these cups so that when we order our drinks from the coffee shop, rather than getting a disposable one, we will get a reusable one. The cups cost around $10 each and we would like to buy at least 50 cups and some reusable carry trays (also made from recycled coffee cups) to get this sustainability project off the ground!
