For over 20 years Silvana and the team have been travelling to Alghero, Sardinia to provide medical treatment, neuter and transport cats living in horrific conditions back to the UK for rehoming or sanctuary at Romney House.
These cats are found living in colonies on the streets, treated as vermin by many locals or exploited by those given money to care for them.
Neutering is considered “unnatural” in Sardinia, so the colonies continue to grow, with the survival rate of pregnant cats and kittens extremely low.
They are starving, abused and suffering from numerous ailments ranging from cancerous tumours to illness as simple as the flu due to lack of vaccinations.
The Romney House Cat Rescue accepts donations to our shelter in the UK, however this does not cover the cost of rescue in Sardinia, which we visit multiple times a year, with Silvana often paying for every rescue out of her own pocket.
To neuter one cat is £100, one trap is £130, a top loader carrier is £80 and flea treatment is £50 for 6 cats. We intend to neuter as many as possible, as well as provide medical treatment to all who need it when we next return to Sardinia on the 11th-21st of June.
Please help us to raise the funds needed to achieve our goal and stop the unnecessary suffering these beautiful animals endure.
