"God knows that it doesn't matter how children get to your family. It just matters that they get there." That quote couldn't be more true to my husband and me. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be a mom. There was nothing I wanted more in this world then, and that desire remains today. Shane has had the same desire to be a father and to raise a family. After long talks together about my medical history and our desires for a family, we have created this Go Fund Me page in the hopes that, with God’s blessing and your help, we can bring a child into our lives and start our own family.
We are choosing to adopt because in 2012 I was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome, also known as SMA Syndrome. Its symptoms include significant inabilities to absorb nutrients, and people with SMA Syndrome are often consistently malnourished or undernourished. To manage this disease, I have had 4 abdominal surgeries and have required extensive nutritional supplements just to keep me alive.
So, generally speaking, it is unsafe for me to carry a child since I have difficulty getting enough nutrition for just myself. Even if the Lord were to bless me with conception, it is highly unlikely that my digestive tract can absorb enough nutrients to support a child, and my abdominal surgeries would make a growing child potentially dangerous. This knowledge is devastating to me and to Shane because all we want to do is start a family.
Given my illness, Shane and I always thought we might adopt someday. We knew that God was pulling our hearts in that direction - we just didn't know it would be so soon! One day, doing completely unrelated research online, an ad for newborn adoption caught my eye, and something inside me pulled at my heart as if to say, “it’s time.” I called Shane and told him that is what we are called to do.
I’ve submitted an application to Everlasting Adoptions and we were accepted right away! I see this as another sign from God. On our follow-up phone interview with the director of Everlasting Adoptions she said we were perfect candidates for adoption. We cried and jumped for joy, but of course there are still obstacles to overcome.
That’s where this page comes in! Unfortunately, the cost of adoption is $25,000-$30,000 total. This covers the costs of the official adoption process, as well as a stipend to help the birth mother. So we thought about it and prayed about it, and we are praying and hoping that we can raise money through this page to support our dream of adopting a child and extending our family.
Though it’s a large total sum, any small amount would help us reach our goal and achieve our unified dream of becoming parents. Even just $1 would mean the world to us, or more if you can manage it. We hope to bring nothing but love and joy to the life of a child. Please consider donating to help us extend our arms to a little one and begin building our own little family of love.
