Renee Buchanan, the reason we've all come to this page and one of the reasons I came into this world, suffers from two very debilitating diseases/conditions. Interstitial Cystitis (IC) with Hunner's Ulcers and Pudendal Nerve Entrapment (PNE.)
Statistically speaking 3-6% of women in the United States suffer from IC. Only .3% of women battle IC with Hunner's Ulcers. Now cross that over with how many women also suffer in combination with the unrelenting pain of PNE and I can't begin to imagine how much smaller that percentage becomes.
She has tried everything... twice.
Through her own will to gain her quality of life back she has found a world renowned specialist which people come to see from across the globe. In global terms, I guess you could call him "local." He is at the St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. About 2,500 miles away.
Renee has received two rounds of treatments in Arizona and 'life-changing' would be an understatement. She won't be running any marathons or rock climbing but she can pick up and play with her grandchildren and that to her holds value higher than all else.
When you deal with a physical battle long enough, there is no doubt that it also becomes a mental battle. Dr. Hibner and his team have given our Mom her smile back and we're not about to let her loose it again.
As you can imagine specialty treatments, medications, physical therapy, and traveling that far is pricey to say the least. But you better believe we are going to do everything in our power to make sure Mom keeps getting to Arizona with Dad by her side every 3 months to keep these treatments working. But we can't do it alone.
