UK Comedians need your help! Due to lockdown most working comedians have lost all future work and very few are entitled to substantial support from our government. As a result of live venues being closed many performers have moved online. However, not everyone is able to afford the equipment required to start streaming content.
This is particularly true in the north of England where comedy remains a largely working class pursuit. I have personally been afforded a lot of privilege in my life. Unlike 99% of my industry I work directly for a venue. This means I am eligible for the government's furlough scheme so I'm very lucky to be supported at this time. I have saved up £500 to start the fund. This is available from today. With more funds being made available later should people choose to donate.
**EDIT: Due to phenomenal support from our donors we now have enough cash to achieve our initial aims. As a result we are now widening this project to also include The Midlands.
**SECOND EDIT: Due to our continued support from our donors we are now opening up this fund to the whole of England. If donations continue we plan to open this up to the whole of UK.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All applicants must live or work in England. All applicants must be from a working class background or currently struggling financially. All applicants must have been a professional comedian either part-time or full-time at the time UK went into lockdown.
WHAT AM I ELIGIBLE FOR?
This fund aims to provide streaming equipment for working class northern comedians. This can be anything from: microphones, tripods, webcams, video lights, usb mixers etc... We will consult with industry professionals to make sure we are providing the best equipment we can. You are only eligible for one item. Each item will have an advisory max cost of £50. For items costing over £50 you may be asked to cover p&p.
