We are three members of The Purple Carrots Drama Studio team (Jordan Campbell, Silvina D’Alessandro and Mjaa Danielson), and we are here to raise money for a new community arts project: The Purple Stage. The Purple Stage is a performance company dedicated to creating neurodiverse theatre projects that provide an opportunity for people of all abilities to create and perform in devised theatrical productions. Taking inspiration from visual art, poetry and music chosen by the performers, we will collaboratively develop innovative performances which challenge theatrical aesthetics and promote inclusion. Our main mission is to offer meaningful, creative and paid job opportunities to neurodiverse teens and adults.
The Purple Stage is a new branch of Purple Carrots Drama Studio (visit www.purplecarrotsdrama.com for more details). The creation of The Purple Stage is a direct response to the incredible performances we’ve seen while teaching our workshops, which we strongly believe warrant wider audience attention. The work our students create is always a dynamic, challenging and fascinating theatrical experience. We want to take these shows to the next level of production through an extended rehearsal process and staged production.
Jordan Campbell will serve as Artistic Director of the project in collaboration with Silvina D’Alessandro (Purple Carrots Drama Studio founder) and Mjaa Danielson, a seasoned Purple Carrots drama teacher. The performers and production team, including choreographer, assistant director and stage manager, will be auditioned from the Purple Carrots community.
Please consider making a donation today to get this project off the ground! You’ll be supporting the employment of neurodiverse performers and helping bring their stories to life for a wider Toronto audience. The money raised from this campaign will go towards artist fees, space rental and production costs (costumes, lighting, sound, props).
The first Purple Stage production is scheduled for December 2019. We need to raise funds as soon as possible in order to cover our production costs, so that 100% of ticket sales can go to our performers!
