The Price of Patience

Donation protected
As you may be aware, our father and your friend, Dennis, is in a severe medical situation.

Dennis is a man that never gave up on a situation or a person; he has always been a fighter. As children we grew up experiencing the same love and humor that he has shared with many, and we know firsthand that the world would not be the same without him.

Day in and day out we have sat by his bedside, and have been traveling back and forth from Maryland to make sure his care is up to par. Some doctors feel as if his condition isn’t progressing fast enough, but we all know our dad isn't exactly the fastest mover in the world. The signs he shows us let us know that he is in there.

As he has been patient with us through our ups and downs, we are committed to being patient with him. We have been doing most things independently, but it seems his care will take longer than we were prepared for. You can plan for emergency situations, but we were hoping he would be better by now.

In addition to his health care, we are also dealing with administrative and legal issues. While we are asking for help, we are in a tricky situation in that we don't yet know all we will need, but we don't want to reach out financially over and over. We are asking for such a large amount to avoid having to ask again because we are completely focused on caring for him, and at the same time both still trying to manage our families back in Maryland and North Carolina. Please do not be discouraged if you are not in position to contribute financially as everything is discreet and anything will help.

Our father is a proud man who has never been to a hospital. He has always instilled a great work ethic in us, and we are committed to remaining by his side. And when he wakes up, we are certain that we want him to work no more. If he requires and increasing level of care, we will still do what it takes. We need money for medical, traveling, living and legal expenses. We are also seeking legal advice.

Outside of financial contributions, please keep the comments going. We read them to him every day. And thank you, Mr. Art Silverman and NPR family for that wonderful audio. We are glad dad is back in his hometown and we appreciate the support from all over.

As of today, Sept. 30, 2017, our dad breathing on his own with minimal assistance from an oxygen tank, mostly as a precaution. All the machines are off and he is still alive and his vital signs are good. All we need is time, and we all know what that means! We have been on the other side of these fundraisers and understand all the emotions that may be involved with these types of requests - that is why we will only ask this one time. Thank you for any support you are able to give.
