My name is Nicholas Vasilios Pappas, and I'm a playwright/director/actor/producer/one-time choreographer living in NYC. In my time in the city so far, I've been focusing mainly on my writing, and have found some success getting shorter works of mine produced: I wrote The Game (formerly locker room talk) for Bia Theatre Ensemble's 1440 festival; Youth (which I also directed) got its world premiere with Slingshot Theater Company; and the Barrington Collective has been generous enough to host readings of three of my short plays - Roulette, The Huntsville Huntsman, and Weird.
I love the short form, but let's do do something bigger, yeah?
With a lovely backyard space provided by one of our producers, my full-length play The Place in Brooklyn is going up at this place in Brooklyn in early May of 2018.
The Place in Brooklyn was tailor-made for the space we're using. It is a play of many small tragedies we get to see, and then one big one that we don't. Friendships crumble, stories are told, relationships are tested, and artistic merit is questioned all over apps and entrées at the hottest (and most exclusive) restaurant in Brooklyn.
We're already well on our way to getting a fantastic show on its feet: the cast is set, the space is confirmed, and the script is in a... pretty good state, but WE NEED YOUR HELP.
I'm funneling some of my meager checking account into this production, but we're looking to raise $2,500 to cover the costs. The majority of the funds will go towards paying our six fantastic actors a stipend that will buy more than one 30-day Metrocard, with the remainder going towards props and set dressing, commissioning some artwork, and buying food for the show and to provide snacks for anyone who makes the trek to this place in Brooklyn where this thing is happening.
And you should know, any funds we don't end up using will be given to the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, so this is a win-win for you! You're supporting the arts, you're supporting charity, you're supporting all of the good things!
Producing in New York is no small task, but this is just the first of many for me. I can't wait to share this play with you.
