The Path Towards Publishing My Book

Donation protected
I have been fortunate throughout my life to have the support of others to carry out dreams-- flying to India to receive stem cell treatment, traveling virtually everywhere in North America to swim and compete, growing a beautiful family and family-run business, and everything in between.

If I were to say I weren't grateful that would be a lie. I AM. Which is exactly why I have one more adventure that I feel compelled to complete-- writing and publishing my very own book.

Truth-be-told, it is something I have mostly been secretly working on for years; but now with a baby on the way it is even more pressing to me to fulfill this final dream to round out my journey thus far.

After meeting with a self-publishing company, I am now well aware of the costs that are necessary to achieve this goal. So here I am-- reaching out to the community and the caregivers that have carried me for my whole life.

What I am asking for is $20 (or whatever you see fit) from as many people as I can reach. This money ($20 being the estimated cost of the book) will provide you with a book once I have finished production of it-- so really, giving and receiving, in and out. I roughly need to reach 300-350 people in order to finance this entire project up front. I take a giant gulp all the way down to the pit of my stomach to give life to this project that I have kept quiet for so many years.

The nature of publishing a well produced self-published book means I pay for everything. So I'm looking to put out this pre-purchase campaign in order to help me pay for it.  Here's where the money will go:

--Development editing
--Copyline editing
--Final proof edit
--Cover design
--Interior layout design
--A Publishing coach
--Printing the book

If I am to stay on task, I could have it in editing by the end of the year, and published--in your hands-- by the time I will be snuggling a newborn in March. This is something that I am about to take real serious now (seeing as I just made myself accountable by starting this fund).

As soon as the book is printed, each of you that support me now will receive your copy-- think of it as a pay advance of sort.

Either way, this book will be written; however, I will need this help in getting it to the eyes of the immediate world around me. So, I'd appreciate you helping me get this out to your own community-- your cast of characters of your own life's work. I can dream of reaching far beyond my own scope, to those who may seek solace in my stories or seek comfort in the reflections upon them.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This book is a loose interpretation of my life so far-- as I recall it in my memory. Each chapter is a different story as I would like to tell it. Each chapter flows by following stories of acceptance, reflection, and action (in that order). Intentionally, I have not written it with chronology in mind; rather the true story, as a storyteller, and meaning of each is far more important to me as the flow of it all.

The working title comes from a real desire of mine, when I was only a handful of fingers old: "When I Want To Grow Up I Want to Be A Chair". Funny how life is sometimes.

ABOUT ME:
To me, I have been an ordinary girl stuck in an extraordinary life nearly ever since I can remember. Having been involved in a fatal and life-changing car accident at the pivotal age of 16, I have never been able to hide in my introverted soul-- but rather have been granted the life to lead by example. Sometimes full of grief and sorrow, yet moreover far more blessed than I could have ever imagined--I have been through it all. And, the best part? Having been hurt and paralyzed at such a young age, it ultimately gave me wings to grow beyond myself, and also to see beyond myself--and many times--beyond any world I could comfortably know.
