The Oregon Trail Pages- a musical

Donation protected

As many of you know, I have been working very passionately on a project for the last year an a half; an original musical about the Oregon Trail.

History is a funny thing. You can learn about it in school, but until you find a personal way to connect with it, it will never truly sink in. I was inspired to tell this story one afternoon while listening to Hamilton and reading an article online about how my generation was raised on a computer game called the Oregon trail. I thought back fondly of my childhood in Denver playing this game at my elementary school and remembered how much it taught me about the history of this country. Then of course, there’s Hamilton blaring in my ear and showing the most amazing example of  how to re-tell history in a unique and interesting way.  I began to look further into the details of the Oregon trail and was blown away by the determination, strength, and hopefulness of the pioneers. Adding that with that with the dangers of the trail, and the odds of dying en route (one in seventeen), and I thought this topic would be perfect for a musical. What I found most interesting in my research, were the true stories of stamina and fortitude from a group of people who were never recognized as being the backbone of the entire era; the women. I wept. Not only over the things these women endured, but also what they were too afraid and ashamed to talk about. With today’s current events and the rebirth of feminism, now is the perfect time to not only tell their stories but also to create more roles for women in theatre.

The Oregon Trail Pages has been selected to be showcased by Musical Café which  is a development program for new musicals here in the Bay area. We are premiering a twenty minute portion of the show in Berkeley on June 1st-3rd and we have already put together a terrific creative team and talented cast to help us pull off our vision.

This workshop is really going to help take this musical to the next level ,we have already pushed it well beyond where we expected it to go, and we haven't even started rehearsing yet!

However, putting on a musical of any degree can be expensive and even though this one is a scaled down workshop version,  it's proving to be quite costly. The price of actors, directors, props, costumes ,and rehearsal expenses add up quick, but will be the glue in the foundation of this musical.

We are asking for your financial support to help cover our costs. Even a small donation will make a huge impact in helping us tell this important story.
