The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has taken a devastating toll on hundreds of millions of people across the globe. But it is children and their families who are being hit hardest by the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. COVID-19 is impacting everyone, some more drastically than others. For a number of families, it could mean making big changes in everyday routines due to financial hardships. To some families it could mean worrying about where their next meal for their family is coming from. Just think how different this world would be if everyone took a few minutes out of their week to do something for someone else? I, Aimee Kamper, along with Kathy Arevalo want to start today and make someone’s day better. We want to pay it forward by engaging in acts of kindness by choosing a family whose economic impact will outlast the pandemic.
Kathy and I first met the Obee family through a post on facebook. Charles and Kathy Obee are parents to Charles, who just turned 14. The Obee family fell on hard times like so many during this pandemic. Charles lost his job, they were homeless living out of their car. For not having appropriate living space for their son, Charlie was temporarily taken from his mom and dad and placed in child protective services. Charles took the first apartment he could find to get Charlie back, just to learn that unfortunately, their apartment is in a neighborhood ravaged by drugs and violence and they are scared to step outside. The Obee family is the most genuine, humble family I have ever met. When I first spoke to Charles all he asked for was a winter jacket for his son. Kathy is disabled and needs a more reliable scooter to get around.
This GOFUNDME page has been started because the Obee family needs the resources to have a realistic chance at success. We were able to find Charles a job. All money raised will be used as following:
Security deposit for a new apartment
License reinstatement fee-due to a parking ticket
Backed Public Service bill
Rent for a few months to get them on their feet.
Purchase a vehicle for Charles to get to and from work.
Essential items (i.e. food/medicines/medical needs)
We would like what started as a small act of kindness to grow into something much bigger. Please help this family get back to a better life. Haven’t we all been through enough? No family deserves to be ripped apart due to financial losses. Any help for this family is welcomed. No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted.
