The Nels Nelson Memorial Fund

Nels Nelson (Cornell University, Class of 1996) passed away suddenly from a heart attack at home on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
His family and friends would like to establish a college fund for his three loving children: Gisele (age 14), Vaughn (age 9), and Malcolm (age 9). Nels was a devoted and caring father, a smart and gentle soul, who valued the importance of an educated mind. College is also where Nels met his wife, Janine Gillot (Cornell University, Class of 1996). In 2016, he and his family returned to Cornell for their 20th Reunion. On this trip, his children wandered around the beautiful campus where their parents learned, made life-long friends, and fell in love. They also met their parents' college friends and their families, forming new friendships. At the end of the trip, Vaughn asked his parents, "Can I go to Cornell for college?"
Nels and Janine made the decision long ago that she would raise their family while he went to work, so his death is both an emotional and financial loss. Janine and Nels put their children's education first and foremost.
As friends and family of the Nelson family, we want to establish this fund to ease their burdens and help give the Nelson children an experience and future that Nels would have wished for them.
