The Movement for Drews Improvement

On September 14th, 2017 Drew Emery was in a life threatening car accident on Mill Road in Yarmouth, Maine. Paramedics who responded to the scene had to use the jaws of life to get him out of his vehicle and air lift him to the hospital. He was intubated and put into a medically induced coma.

On September 15th, 2017 around 3pm the doctors and nurses were finally able to extubate Drew and he has been breathing on his own ever since. He also attempted speaking and managed a few coherent words; however most importantly he was able to recognise his mom.

Drews prognosis will change day to day as is  typical with a head trauma. Drew has a fractured skull and has sustained frontal and right temporal lobe injuries. These areas of the brain control personality, judgement, organizational skills, and language to lust a few. He also has an L1 fracture (spinal fracture) that is stable. The injuries to his head have caused edema, (swelling of the brain) which takes a long time to decrease.

Doctors have told us that the recovery will be lengthy and difficult and will vary from day to day. He will continue in the hospital until he is strong enough to be moved into a rehab facility for cognitive therapy. After rehab therapy he will require assistance at home, the level which is unknown at this time. Until Drew completes his treatment it is unknown when he will be able to return to work.

We as a family are pulling all of our resources together to help Drew and Grace. His mom has had to, and will continue to need to, take time off from work which has added financial burden in an already stressful and emotional situation. Grace will be Drews support in everyway and she will not be able to meet all the financial responsibilities for both of them. Drew has living expenses, car insurance and payments, phone bill, hospital bills that will soon be arriving, and future medical bills no one can predict.

Any financial support would be greatly appreciated to help with these bills and to also ease the stress of everyday expenses for Drew and his mother Grace. Please feel free to share this page to help reach our goal. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
