The Mizzi's Need a New A/C

If you have lived on AMI for any length of time, you've most certainly met Dottie & George.  The Mizzi's have been devoted members of our Island Comunity for almost 30 years. They have lived here full time since they retired, and are on a fixed income without a lot of leeway to pay for emergencies.  Unfortunately, when the power came back on, it fried their air conditioner.  Being that they have a decades old unit, it is not repairable, and the entire unit needs replacing. The Mizzi's have been customers of Air America I think since Eric Bergan first opened, and Eric loves Dottie dearly.  Steve has already arranged to have the unit replaced early next week, is giving her the best price he can, and is trying to get out here on Monday to do the work.  Both Dottie and George have health issues, and they need air conditioning.  Dottie and George have done SO MUCH for the comunity in the 30 or so years that they've lived here.  You may remmber George from the old bike repair shop in Holmes Beach. Dottie is active with the Center, Senior Adventures, and the Island Players. They have generously donated to a plethora of Island Causes.  Dottie & George are the types who would give you their own umbrella in a rain storm while they get drenched. She is very much a "Today for you, tomorrow for me" type of person.  When I told her I wanted to set this up, she was overwhelmed.  I told her her tomorrow had finally come, and it was HER turn.  Now it is time for us to show our thanks.  Dottie would like to see any surplus funds raised split between The Center and the Senior Adventures program.  Anything over the final cost of the repair will be split between these very worthy recipients.  She needed to take out a loan to even pay the upfront costs Air America requires. If at all possible, I'd like to see these funds raised over the weekend.  The Mizzis are so busy making sure everyone else is okay after Irma, they have not even begun their own clean up. Just imagine the stress we could take off of the Mizzis if we give quickly and generously. We all should have at least $20 we would have spent on entertainment that we didn't, because nowhere was open to spend it.  I am sure many folks who see this can share a story about the Mizzis helping them at some point over the years.  They do not have any type of insurance that will cover any of this.  Please consider showing your thanks for all the Mizzis have contributed through the years.  If you would like to make a contribution outside of GoFundMe, Cindy Perinetti and Laurel Nevans are accepting cash contributions, as well as checks.  Thank you all for helping.  If you've ever wanted to do something nice for Dottie and George to express your thanks for something they did for you, now is your chance. We can raise this money for them, I am sure. We are Islanders, and this is what we do--we pitch in and help each other when we need it. I know our Island will come through for George & Dottie Mizzi!
