Hi, my name is Melanie and I am fundraising for the homeowners of Chadwick Park townhome community in Savage Minnesota.

The residents were recently assessed ~$22,500/unit for a new roof with just over a month to come up with the funds. Many of the homeowners of the 225 units had insurance to cover the assessment but many were underinsured or uninsured.

After review of the HOA’s by-laws and declaration the assessment was placed by the board outside of its scope of authority . The assessment was not covered under the association’s master insurance policy so it was the responsibility of the members to cover the entire cost of the roof.

Through multiple inspections it was determined that the roof does not need replacing and the assessment to the homeowners was nearly $2,000,000 more than the bids received from roofing companies.

Dozens of homeowners have been financially impacted to the degree that they are at risk of losing their homes and/or depleting their savings, as 80-90% of the residents are senior citizens and on a fixed income.

The money that we will be raising from the fundraiser will be going towards legal fees and associated costs to help us stop this project.

Beginning 3/1/24 these homeowners will begin accruing late fees and liens will be placed on their homes.

If we receive donations in excess of what is incurred in legal fees those donations will be equitably distributed among those most financially impacted.

I have never done a GoFundMe before but after the calls and emails I have received and the heart wrenching stories I’ve been told I feel it is my obligation to do what I can to alleviate the feelings of stress, fear, anger, deceit and sadness these members are working through.
