The Medusa Fine Arts Project and Public Art Space aka The Medusa Project Inc, a 501(c)3
Incorporation.
The Mission:
The mission of The Medusa Project and The Medusa Cafe + Mercantile is to revitalize the rural village of Medusa, NY 12120 and the surrounding area by creating an arts audience and connecting
an entire rural community to the art world with a vibrant public arts project. A café and gift shop will be key elements in establishing curb appeal and local interest.
The Building:
We will purchase a particular property on Main Street and start a rural arts revitalization project to develop and implement a sustainable arts knowledge base.
The planned non profit exhibition space will beautify the village of Medusa, create jobs increase property values for locals, will afford townspeople an opportunity to become an art audience, and connect an entire rural community to the art world. We want to introduce the positive and eclectic energy that only art can create. Furthermore, it will be a tourist attraction pulling shoppers with disposable income from Hudson, NYC, Boston, Albany , NJ etc.
The Goal:
We want an arts presence be as regular to the locals as their farm chores. Milk a cow, then take a free 4x5 polaroid class at the Art Space. That's our idea.
Workshops will be absolutely free to anyone with proof of local residency. Each exhibiting artist will give a collaborative talk and demonstration about their work on Saturday mornings.
A public gallery space is planned. Fine artists of rotating disciplines will be invited to exhibit and install a curated, public series for the town.
The Takeaway:
Every resident of Rensellarville, Medusa, Berne, Westerlo, Preston Hollow and Greenville, NY will be able to come in and put their name in a fishbowl to win a fine art piece donated by the artist gift from the exhibiting artist to the townspeople- with every show we mount. That means every single area resident can become an art appreciator and collector, for free.
We want to award a stipend to the exhibiting artist chosen to cover their materials and shipping costs for the installation. That is still in the works. We are actively seeking grant funding for this. If we are unable to do so, we will provide confirmation to each artist so that they can apply for their opportunity based grants or SOS grants.
Exhibit themes are currently invitation-only, however we will eventually open up a considered application process by committee.
