***December 17 Update***

On behalf of my family, I want to thank everyone for the support they have shown our family since Marc’s passing. We are extremely grateful for all that you have done for us during this difficult time.

The last several weeks have been unbearable to say the least. In the hours and days that have  followed Marc’s passing the outpouring of love, prayers, kind thoughts, and well wishes from the community was amazing to us and brought us some comfort.

Since Marc’s passing, our community has shown a remarkable amount of support by driving by our home to offer their condolences, flowers, drop-off food for our family, and share heartfelt messages and love. Although we may not be able to offer an individual thank you for each and every act of kindness shown to our family, we do want you to know that they were received and so very appreciated. We feel loved.

The foundation that was started has left us in awe with how quickly and completely our far reaching community got behind the message. We started this Foundation for many reasons, however a major motivation for us came from the community - everyone wanted to help and we felt that the Foundation was the best outlet-it has proven to be the right choice.

While it continues to be difficult to process our loss, I find myself smiling as I read the kind words and stories that you all have shared about Marc, he was one of the good ones that’s for sure.  It is evident that his life touched so many and that will help our family heal.  My family was with me to provide comfort and to mourn, however I now realize that you are all part of my family.  I hope you hold yours a little tighter today.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! Every dollar, every prayer, every story, every thought, every bit of good will is appreciated. The way that you all have expressed how you will remember Marc means the world to us.  Knowing that Marc made an impact on your lives in some way makes his time here feel eternal, we will hold on to that for the rest of our lives. As we continue to move forward, we hope that we are able to take something so negative and turned it into a positive.

***November 25 Update***

Yesterday at 8 pm our family announced the passing of our beloved Marc. We made the decision to accompany the announcement with a GoFundMe page with the hope to begin a foundation to carry on Marc’s legacy in the community.

The modest goal we set has been blown out of the water within only a few hours. This is a testiment to Marc’s impact on every person he touched. Today we have extended the goal to $100,000. The Lalonde family is not the benificiary of the money raised, rather the money raised will be put to use in the community in a capacity yet to be finalized.

Aidan, Devyn, Liam, and Aileen have couragiously chosen to be transparent and let the world know exactly what happened. Social media has acted as our megaphone to harness the heartbreak the community is feeling and create a platform that will change lives. We are yet to determine the mission of the Marc Lalonde Memorial Foundation.
Michael Shein is the executor of Marc Lalonde's will and the Marc Lalonde Memorial Foundation.

This foundation has allowed us to come together virtually to remember the best of Marc and all he was passionate about. Please consider making a donation and sending messages and wishes to the foundation's gmail and sharing meals on Meal Train .

November 24, 2020
It is with great sadness that we are sharing news that Marc Lalonde passed away last Sunday. Marc was a beloved father to three remarkable children; Aidan, Devyn, and Liam, and loving husband to our sister, Aileen. He was truly an outstanding person, and an exemplary member of the Coquitlam community who volunteered his time as a coach, mentor, and leader. He pursued all endeavours filled with passion and enthusiasm, and could always be relied upon by anyone in his family or community. After a courageous battle with mental illness, Marc sadly died by suicide.  We lost a good man – Marc will forever be in our hearts.

The Lalonde, Dowling, and Shein families are establishing a non-profit foundation in his honour, and we hope his legacy lives on through the Marc Lalonde Memorial Foundation. The Foundation’s mission will be to offer ongoing personal, professional, and educational development for young people, and work to reduce stigma associated with depression and mental illness. The GoFundMe page is a way for people who would like to support a cause that Marc was an advocate for in a meaningful and impactful way. Marc’s impact and influence have made a lasting impression on all those around him, near and far. His energy, passion, and drive were contagious and only a few of the characteristics that made him such an incredible man to be in the presence of. More information and ways to donate, can be found through the link below.

Our family and community are together in sadness. Marc was a major advocate for mental health, and would want you to know that you are not alone in your grief. If you feel hopeless and you need to talk please call the Canada Suicide Prevention Service, 24/7 at [phone redacted].
