What is this project about?
- about building up a life under the difficulties which are mainly the wild and the Kenyan economy
- making a small difference in nature conservation with your work
- showing and proving a different life style (ecovillage)
Background explanation (general):
The Kenyan currency 'Shilling' has been a victim of an immense inflation in the past years. The merit of labour and services however is not being paid more which makes it almost impossible to change your living situation for the better.
Basically: life is hard.
People are either leaving the country for a better life somewhere else or exploit their land and its recourses.
And it is human: if you were a landowner, and you wouldn't see any outcome or only little for conservation, would you not take down trees because you know you can get money for wood and charcoal?
Additionally people also have to share their land with lions, hyenas and other predators that can eat all of their cows and goats. So to build up a safe home or a lucrative hosting business you also need money for safety measures.

Background information (personal):
Jeff Kamoye has been living in the Kenyan wilderness close to the 'Maasai Mara Game Reserve' for the past six years now. When he came to 'the bush' he fought through hardships and sustained himself with a small garden and selling his vegetables. Over the years he managed to - little by little - start building a few traditional 'manyatas' on the land he inherited from his father and worked among other things with volunteers from all over the world. But his idea of building his ecovillage gets harder to accomplish with the ongoing inflation and crisis.
Today you will find him working for it - struggling and continuing all the same.
The concept of an ecovillage or ranch should be known all over the world. It shows a way of living with the nature in peace in the society and economy of today. Maasai have lived in peace with the nature for centuries, but with development and civilisation also the people of that mindset need to adapt and create a way of sustaining themselves in the economy.

What is the vision?
- Conservation (Saving Trees/ Nature)
- Living in peace with nature and animals
- Becoming a role model for other landowners who decide about their forests being taken down or conserving them
- Establish a strong self-sustaining system that can support the region in the insecure economy
- Offering authentic insight in wildlife and maasai
What is done specifically?
- Garden
- Bee hives
- Camp
- Fish ponds
- Cows

Even in crises (like corona) this project - if established - is going to sustain itself. It is situated on a private land and the water system and the solar electricity network are self-made. It is called 'ecovillage' and the concept is unique in this region.
You can be sure: your contribution is going to be spend for establishing a stronghold from within Kenya. Right now in this phase of the project donations are needed, but it will not depend on donations for long: your money will be used to help someone do it himself.
Foreigners from outside have build successful camps/lodges in the past, but it is difficult for locals to get the budget for it.
Let's give someone this chance directly and let him inspire others to see the value of the nature they are living in!

How can you help: Numbers: (financial)
- Materials for finishing the guest houses ---> one-time purchase of approx. 1000 euros
- Solar pump ---> one-time purchase of approx. 700 euros
- fixing and securing big electrical fence ---> one-time purchase of approx. 600 euros
- Guardian (salary) ---> approx. 100 euros per month
- cows (lion light) ---> (one already installed)
- small net for the garden fence (protection against rodents etc.) ---> (done :)
Applies to major jobs such as harvesting, repotting or installing purchases:
- Workers (3-4 people) ---> approx. 20 euros per day
Please note that right now before harvesting starts very little money is also used for food for the family!
Why trees are so important:
- Climate
- Precipitation in the region
- Habitat or part of habitat for animals
- Source of wood
- Source of herbal medicine (preserving tribal knowledge)
- Landscape
