Dear Kind Patrons, Donors, Benefactors, Philanthropists, and friends,
My name is Tom Wheatcroft and I write today representing a hard working focused and beyond dedicated crew of workers based currently in St. Maarten / St. Martin- left tackling the aftermath of the “Worst Known Hurricane” in human history….HURRICANE IRMA. To describe the after effects of Irma is almost beyond words and heartbreaking and by now the pictures and stories have been shared around the world.
Our current team “The Magnificent Seven” consists of: Marnix, Cor, Gerald, Sebastiaan, Little Sebastiaan, Herve, and….myself.
Many of the initial crew are scattered throughout the island, and they along with their families are safe as of September 25th, but have literally lost everything…IRMA took what IRMA wanted sparing no one.
At the start, we decided to be self-sufficient and as we were all involved in the restaurant/bar industry we were instructed by our boss to give away all of our stock to our community in Maho.
Our businesses; Soprano’s Piano Bar, 3 Amigos, Moomba, Fresh, Marty’s and Le Moulin Fou (the last not affiliated yet a generous contributor) have been cooking and feeding around 150 – 200 workers every day at no charge, thanks or compensation requested or wanted.
When we are not cooking and feeding we try to give a breath of normality to the community…we clean and we rebuild. SXM is our home and we are proud to call it so. We will not falter until every mouth is fed and the last brick is finally set.
It is difficult for me to write this as none of us are looking for glory or praise… but we have found ourselves in a predicament that we have been trying to address with cool and collected heads. However, with regret, we have no way to address this problem on our own in the dire situation that we face. There are approx. 20 or so colleagues in need; need of food, clothing, shelter, rebuilding tools, etc., as it will be quite a while before day to day operations and paychecks can start coming in again. Because of this we have asked our friends LDP and RCP to assist in this gofund me page, they are located in Long Island, NY and will forward the $ as soon as they come in.
Our goal is to raise money which we will use to rebuild the homes and lives of our team and sustain the community we have in Maho. Funding will be immediately dispersed via food, tools and building materials all of which we are confident we can maximize in the most effective way for all.
This stunning island full of beautiful beaches, turquoise seas and its vibrant culture was changed, terrifyingly, over the night of September 6, 2017…yet the strength and positivity of its inhabitants remains strong and willing. We are proud that we can be a part of this rebuilding project…SXM’s next step. We respectfully ask for your donation so that you too can also be involved to help SXM and the people of the island.
All named donations will receive a place on an allocated “wall of fame” monument, which we will arrange once we are back on our feet again. To those of you who know us personally, you understand that we always look after those who look after us. To those who don’t we hope to get to know you when this island returns one day in all its natural beauty.

So go fund me needs me to add this info: My name is LeeAnn Donaton-Pesta from Long Island, New York with a second home in St. Maarten. I am very good friends with all of the Magnificent "7" who asked me to start this page for them as they were unable to from sxm. The funds will go towards food, shelter, building materials and tools. The funds once collected will then be sent directly to Tom Wheatcroft or one of the "7" by wire transfer as that is the only way at this point to get them the funds. 100 % of the funds raised will go to them 100%.
