Let's get this refugee family a real home

We at Jallohs Upright Services, in coordination with Guilford College, are leading this fundraiser on behalf of our client, a refugee family in desperate need. All donations will used to directly support this family and secure an affordable, safe, stable and long term housing solution. Other supporters are providing essential care that has improved their emotional and spiritual wellbeing following their trauma, but now they must seek a permanent home. A generous supporter is ready to underwrite a portion of their monthly rent for a year. Won’t you please consider a contribution that will finally allow the family to get back on their own feet?
This family of ten is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and arrived in Greensboro in 2016. Since then they experienced instability and terrible living conditions. First they were placed into the notorious Summit-Cone Apartments, known for its code violations, and then were moved into a second rental which was equally unsafe and where they nearly lost their lives. On Thanksgiving Day, 2018, this family came close to the kind of fire death that killed 5 refugee children just a few months before at Summit-Cone. Since then, they have been living in temporary housing.
Today, almost one year later, they are still in need of a good, permanent, safe, and affordable home. They need a special, caring landlord and a home with at least 4 bedrooms. Two children have special needs who require on-going care and attention. A one-story home is needed because stairs pose a challenge to their special needs children.
The family has endured hardships and has come through a lot. They are a loving family with a hardworking dad who has to commute out of the county to work on a daily basis. He is the sole breadwinner and juggles work and health care for his son when surgeries and procedures are required. The parents care deeply for the well-being, education, and future of their children and hope to get settled quickly and safely and to finally begin their lives on stable ground here in the U.S.
