Who are we?

We are a collective of thirteen multidisciplinary theatre artists. Combined, the thirteen members of our collective bring an honest and thoughtful approach to our work. Our aim is to present an immersive theatre experience, on one of Toronto's most notorious pirate ships. Our process started with one question: What lies beneath us? During our rehearsals, we will explore this theme through storytelling, dance, and music. Our playwright, Genevieve Adam ("Deceitful Above All Things", SummerWorks), is currently writing our script, and is drawing from our research and personal connections to the theme.

Our creative process will culminate in a live theatrical performance, "The Boat Show", which will take place on a tall-ship docked at Toronto Harbour. We ask you to set sail with us on the waters of Lake Ontario for an intimate night of theatre, told through the lens of nautical pioneers, female visionaries, and sirens from the deep.

What should I expect from "The Boat Show"?

A piece of original theatre and music on a tall-ship.  With your donations and patronage we will set-sail through Lake Ontario for an hour-long performance.  Toronto's harbourfront will be twinkling with city lights, and as dusk falls our ship will depart with 40 passengers and one brand new story. This will be an intimate night that you won't forget. Sip on a wine or beer, available from the cash bar on board, and sail away with us.

How much should I donate?

Everything helps! Here are our suggestions, and how we will thank you for your love and support.

How will my donation help fund "The Boat Show"?

In order to produce our show we need your donations and support. We have budgeted for a $6000 target, which will cover our initial production costs. Your donations will help cover our boat rental fee, rehearsal venue, costumes, props, sound and lights.

Producing live theatre takes a financial toll on the artists. Many deposits, rental fees, etc, are expected up front. We are asking for your help with production costs so that 100% of the ticket sales can go back to the artists.

We believe in 100% transparency.  In order to create the sailing show we must pay a cost of $282.50 per hour.  In our $6000 target, we have budgeted for 3 sailing shows, 3 docked shows, and 1 sailing dress rehearsal. We have chosen this specific venue, so that we can use the ship as our set. This reduces our costs significantly, and will allow us to spend more time creating our piece. With your help, we are confident that we can create a memorable experience for our viewers.

How much will a ticket to “The Boat Show”  cost?

We are hoping to sail all 6 shows, but have to be realistic about cost.  We know that some of our targeted audience are also artists, and may not be able to afford the sailing show. We wanted to offer a cost effective option for families, as well.

Below, you'll find the estimated ticket costs, and budget line.  Once we've reached our base goal, our artists will be able to earn a modest income for their contribution. Through our budget line, you can see that we are creating this piece out of love, rather than personal profit. We are committed to bringing you a unique experience, in what we hope will become an annual tradition at Toronto's Harbourfront.

Summary

Like many indie projects, the reality is that the members of our collective will only make a profit once our base costs are covered.  Your donations will help cover the production costs, and give back to our actors and our theatrical community. The profits will be split evenly amongst all thirteen members. Your donations won't only help our show sail (literally), but will help our artists stay afloat.

Please remember that anything helps, from a $1 donation, to a like on social media.  We understand that some of our supporters may not be able to offer financial support, but there are other ways you can help.  Please like and follow us across our social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram @thelostsoulscollective.

We are excited to bring you a unique theatrical experience and to share our show with you. "The Boat Show" is coming to Toronto's harbourfront this September 2018. See you there!

Sincerely Yours,

The Lost Souls Collective
