Help Longjohns with Medical and Living Expenses

Hi, my name is Melissa and I would never in a million years dream of doing a fundraiser like this unless we really needed the help.

Here’s the chisme. On Sunday, August 13th, Mike and Arya were in a serious bike/car accident and he was thrown off the bike and broke his pelvis/hip in two places. I can’t describe to you the experience of driving to an intersection and seeing your husband and daughter laying on the asphalt. It was not only scary but traumatizing for everyone. I didn’t know what to do or who to care for. They were both transported to UCI hospital in Orange and thankfully Arya was released with some scrapes and a minor concussion.

Mike was not so lucky and he is still hospitalized. He had surgery a couple of days later to repair his pelvis and a couple of days after that he was able to take a few steps. The road to recovery is going to be long and arduous. Once he is released from the hospital he will be going to an inpatient rehab facility to help him walk and get better. Then hopefully he will be able to come home.

Recently, I was off of work for 6 weeks due to my own health problems and have used all my time and don’t get disability as I work for LA County. I have had to take time off without pay, and Mike is not going to be able to go back to work for at minimum 3 months. He is the main breadwinner in our family and so this is a hard blow to our finances. We are also going to have to get a bed to put downstairs as he will not be able to walk upstairs. We are trying to manage but it is getting hard and are asking helping for living expenses and for any medical expenses that come up.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and are so grateful to everyone that has thus far reached out to us. Please keep Mike in your prayers that he recovers well! He has a family relying on him to come home!

UPDATE 1: Mike was transferred via ambulance to Palmdale Regional Medical Center where he will be staying to rehabilitate. Not sure how long he will be in there most likely a week or two.
