<div>Along the coast of Punta de Mita, Mexico, a community is beginning to remember.
</div>

</div>
<div>What started as a conflict over public beach access has revealed something much deeper: stories of displacement, ecological change, forgotten histories, and generations of people connected to the same coastline.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am currently developing a feature documentary called *THE LINE*.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The film follows fishermen, surfers, families, workers, business owners, community leaders, and longtime residents as they navigate life along a rapidly changing coast shaped by tourism, luxury development, and competing visions of the future.
</div>

</div>
<div>But this is not simply a film about development, protest, or property lines.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>At its heart, *THE LINE* is about humanity's relationship with the ocean.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For generations, people have been drawn to this coastline for many of the same reasons: sustenance, freedom, beauty, belonging, and the simple experience of being close to the sea. Fishermen earn their livelihoods from it. Surfers find expression within it. Families gather beside it. Visitors travel thousands of miles to experience it.

<div>Yet the very qualities that attract people here have increasingly become part of a luxury product sold around the world.
</div>

</div>
<div>As community members revisit places where homes once stood, recall reefs that have disappeared within their lifetimes, and uncover histories stretching back centuries, a larger question emerges:

<div>**How do communities maintain their relationship with a place when the landscape around them is rapidly transformed?**
</div>

</div>
<div>The deeper we look, the further the story reaches.
</div>

</div>
<div>Archaeological sites, oral histories, ecological memory, family photographs, and forgotten stories reveal a coastline that has supported human communities for generations. What began as a contemporary conflict is becoming an exploration of memory, belonging, stewardship, and our shared relationship with the ocean itself.

<div>## Why This Story Matters To Me

<div>I did not grow up beside the ocean.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I discovered it as an adult, and it changed the course of my life.
</div>

</div>
<div>Nearly twenty years ago, I left a career in broadcast television and moved to the Pacific coast of Mexico. Since then, I have built my life around this coastline, documenting environmental conservation, local history, Indigenous narratives, community life, and the people who call this region home.
</div>

</div>
<div>The ocean became the place where I found perspective, connection, and a sense of belonging. It became part of my family's life and part of who I am.
</div>

</div>
<div>This is not a story I arrived at from the outside.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It is a story I have been living alongside for decades.
</div>

</div>
<div>## Why Funding Is Needed

<div>This project is currently in active development and production.

<div>The events unfolding in Punta de Mita are happening in real time, but so is the historical research. Alongside filming, I am gathering oral histories, photographs, archival materials, ecological observations, and historical records that may otherwise be lost.

<div>My goal is not only to create a documentary, but to help preserve a historical record that can continue serving the community long after the film is completed.

<div>En el fondo, *THE LINE* trata sobre la relación humana con el océano.

<div>Durante generaciones, las personas han sido atraídas a esta costa por muchas de las mismas razones: sustento, libertad, belleza, pertenencia y la simple experiencia de estar cerca del mar. Los pescadores viven de él. Los surfistas encuentran expresión y creatividad en sus olas. Las familias se reúnen junto a él. Los visitantes recorren miles de kilómetros para experimentarlo.
