Darryl "The Legend" Beardall

Most of those who run and come from the Sonoma County area are familiar with the name Darryl Beardall, otherwise known as, "the Legend." His accomplishments speak for themselves. Here are just a few.  He got his start in running at 17 years old, running for the track team at BYU, where he finished seventh in the nation at 10,000 meters his senior year. Since then, he has run over 200 marathons, including 4 US Olympic Time Trials and seven 100-mile ultras; has raced in 60 annual Dipsea Runs, and logged nearly 315, 000 lifetime miles. Age hasn't slowed down the amount of races and miles Darryl completes. Even at 82, he still races nearly every weekend and regularly wins his division. He is a familiar face in the high school community even after his Elmo coaching days, and still volunteers his time at local invites and league championships. As a coach at El Molino High School, he poured his knowledge and enthusiasm into many young runners.  He has many around this state and country who can look to him as the reason they continue to run and win!  He serves as an inspiration to many.  His gift of humor is well known to lighten the mood; teaching us not to take it all too seriously.

Last year, Darryl lost his teeth, and the expenses are too high for him to cover the dental costs on his own. It is our hope, that the local community and those who have had their lives touched by this dedicated man will make a donation to help him with these dental expenses. He has invested so much into our community. Let’s invest back into him!
