Instead, on September 22, 2025, tragedy struck in East Oakland when her life was cut short by senseless gun violence. Just 29 years old, Carla had stepped outside her home, heading to pick up her niece and nephew from their after-school program, when, as an innocent bystander, her life was tragically taken.

She also helped care for her two autistic brothers, showing endless patience, compassion, and dedication. Carla was the kind of person who always put others before herself — a devoted animal lover, a traveler with a curious spirit, and, above all, someone with a heart of gold. Always wearing a smile, she carried a genuine, radiant spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
