<div>Today, Wednesday 2nd October 2024, the trial of the Metropolitan Police firearms officer, Martyn Blake, charged with the murder of Chris Kaba, will begin.

<div><strong>Chris, a young Black expectant father, was shot in the head and killed by Martyn Blake on 5 September 2022.</strong> He was only 24 years old when he was killed. <strong>He was unarmed.</strong> Today, the pursuit of justice continues.

<div>The Kaba family is still grieving, still seeking answers, and still in need of your support. Families that are bereaved by the state are left to fight for their loved one - unsupported and unresourced. It shouldn't be this way. <em>As a community, we can build supportive infrastructure to ease this burden.</em>

<div>Real justice means not only accountability in this case but also pushing for wider systemic change to prevent this from happening again. As a community, our vision of justice must go beyond the criminal legal system. <strong>We must imagine what real repair, healing, and transformation could look and feel like.</strong>

<div>Since 1990 there have been 1,904 deaths recorded by Charity INQUEST in or following police custody or contact. <strong>In that time not one officer has been found guilty of murder.</strong> This trial is a crucial moment in the wider fight for accountability. However, it brings significant costs. We are raising funds to provide vital support to the Kaba family and Justice for Chris Kaba campaign during this pivotal trial period and beyond.

<div>Your donations will fund emotional care, campaign coordination support, and trial costs, including travel, food and logistics for the trial which is expected to last at least three weeks - involving attending daily from at least 9 am to 5 pm.
