This is how their story began.  Sadly, it's taken a turn again for the worst.  Please read the latest updates for current information.

After a very tough few months including multiple car issues resulting in a transmission replacement and other repairs, a flooded basement, and Sara's fall resulting in a hip injury during her pregnancy, the Jacobs family thought that it couldn’t get any worse, but it did.

Unfortunately, a nightmare was around the corner. After multiple trips to the urgent care and emergency room Zach was sent to see his family doc after he was still having trouble breathing and simply felt "run down." His family doc immediately referred him to multiple specialists after seeing that the testing from the ER was not normal. On 3/10/18, Zach was at one of the specialist visits where he was instructed to go to the emergency room immediately to be admitted as he suspected a serious heart issue. After multiple tests and days in the hospital, Zach was diagnosed with a very weak heart and was given the news that his heart was pumping at 10%. He is now required to wear a "life-vest" (a wearable defibrillator is a treatment option for sudden cardiac arrest that offers patients advanced protection and monitoring as well as improved quality of life) 24/7 and is being followed very closely by his cardiologist and the heart failure team.

As you can imagine, this news has been extremely hard on Sara and the kids and comes at a time that Sara is also 33 weeks pregnant with their 5th child.

Zach and Sara will not ask for help on their own, so we are asking on their behalf. We would greatly appreciate any help as Sara is now taking time off work before her maternity leave to care for the family and be available for all of Zach's appointments and procedures in addition to her OB appointments. Any donations will also be used for the large amount of medical bills that are already rolling in.

Nicholas, Avery, Zoey and Mackenzie are very worried about Daddy's heart and are even asking if "Daddy is coming back" even when he leaves the room to take a shower because the last week and half has been extremely hard for them. Zach's hospital stay was the first time he has been away from the kids for multiple days.

The Jacobs family has a long road ahead of them, but with the support of family and friends we know they will make it through this horrible time.
