Philip McNally, a talented Motorbike Racer and fitness enthusiast was one of the best Short Circuit racers in the country. In 2019 he suffered a tragic accident whilst racing Motorbike Sidecars in Mondello Park that saw himself and his teammate/passenger suffer life changing injuries.
Philip (Jack) can no longer use the lower half of his body and now needs assistance with a wheelchair to get around and has to have his home adapted to meet the needs of his new life. There are other factors and limitations that Philip has and will encounter but as a young man he is more than determined to live his life to the full.
The fundraising will help Philip adapt and make things as normal as possible for him. The money will go directly to helping him adapt is home and help him with day to day costs he may encounter not to mention medical bills.
Philip also was an avid cyclist and runner who took part in many fundraising events himself most notably the Coast to Coast ultra marathon in 2017 in a remarkable time. He also had plans before his accident to take part in the Race Around Ireland.
So here's the details. I will take on the Mammoth challenge of cycling from the foot of the country all the way to the border OFF-ROAD. This route is known mainly as a hiking route but I intend to tackle this on my Mountain Bike. The route consists of over 500km of trail, roads and fire-road with well in excess of 6000m climing. There will be minimal support and will only look to have a support vehicle following on the road which I will meet in certain towns. All the trail sections will be unsupported.
This will take a lot of thought and planning. It will be tough! Super tough! But the goal will be to finish the route in 4 days. I plan to only ride in daylight hours but use as much of them as possible. I hope to start the challenge on the last week of August all going well but will confirm this as soon as everything is in place.
