The Hip Replacement Nightmare

Donation protected
My Aunt Cindy has been living in a nightmare which began on March 5, 2018 as a routine full hip replacement.

Here is her story!!

Beginning with my initial surgery, my 15-inch hip incision has been opened four times and prosthetic components have been implanted three times. During my recovery from those surgeries I have faithfully followed orders for physical therapy, both in and out of the hospital, and unfortunately have been 'rewarded' with numerous complications – including a broken femur, dislocation of the replacement components, and serious infections. Most recently, only two weeks after my third surgery in early July, I was transferred by ambulance from Community Memorial Hospital to Upstate University Hospital where the third prosthesis was removed and not replaced, leaving me without a hip joint while my body recovers from the numerous complications surrounding all surgeries. Presently, I am an inpatient at Sitrin Rehabilitation Center learning to navigate without a hip. If all goes as planned I anticipate being released within two weeks to fully recover at home, where I will basically be confined to a wheelchair. A final, and hopefully successful, full hip replacement surgery will be scheduled sometime in late October.

Since my initial surgery in March I have been unable to work as a digital retoucher. Now, I am no longer eligible for disability insurance payments which I have been using to keep up with my monthly financial obligations. My health insurance is limited and does not cover all expenses related to my medical situation, much less the costs of daily living. I have been fortunate to have the help and support of family and friends since March, but now my financial resources have become so limited that I am asking for the help of the community until I am able to return to work and put this nightmare behind me. Your generous donations will be used to cover basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, and transportation to medical appointments. Thank you in advance for any donations, and also for sending your positive thoughts my way as I await what I hope will be my final surgery.
