***Update on Pina below story (from the 07/01/2021 & the 18/01/2021)

On Friday the 5th December Pina went out with a close mate for the night and had a niggling sore throat….. by the end of the night it was really sore, and she was starting to have trouble breathing. She rang a mate who advised her that if it got any worse she should attend her local hospital.

By the early hours of Saturday morning Pina had called an ambulance, and once at the hospital she collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. The staff needed to do CPR on her to bring her back to us.

The hospital placed her into a medically induced coma as her airways were so swollen they needed to insert breathing tubes down her throat so that they could keep her alive.

Many tests were done, including giving her every kind of antibiotic/steroid and anti-inflammatory to try and reduce the swelling, but to no avail.

She was in a coma for around 5 days before an emergency tracheostomy was performed.

On the 6th day they attempted to wake her up to see if she could breathe on her own, but it was another couple of days before she started to show signs of independent breathing.

It has been one hell of an ordeal for Pina’s family who have been at her bedside day and night, and her friends who have desperately waited with bated breath to hear snippets of how she is doing via text message to keep them going each day.

There are still no answers to the many tests that have been done, and no end in sight for her and her family.

We have no idea how long she will be in the hospital, no idea how long until she can leave and be independent again, and even then, there may be a lengthy period of rehabilitation and support required.

Pina is the most giving person that we all know, and so I don’t feel rude asking for you to give back to her in her time of need.

Whatever you can spare will help, and if you can’t spare a cent, can you please share the page on the social media platform of your choosing so that others might.

We will keep sharing it until she demands that we close it, and I bloody look forward to that day!

Thank you beautiful friends.

Emma.

***Update 07/01/2021
Pina is still in the ICU fighting very hard to get all of her strength back.
She still has the need of the tracheostomy, to help deliver oxygen to her lungs, and until Monday the 4th January she was nil by mouth.

They removed her tonsils and a large abscess that were not helping her throat swelling to go down during the period of time where her temperature was at an all time high for days and days on end.

She has slowly begun tolerating small amounts of food and liquid, and if she continues to do so, hopefully we can crack her out of the ICU, which would give her great relief.

She cannot talk with the tracheostomy in, just mouth her words, she is unable to get up, she does not have good use of both of her arms, but particularly her left (and she is left handed) so she cannot use a phone or word chart just yet, and cannot see very well (they are looking into why her eye sight may have been affected currently).

***18/01/2021 - From Dani (Pina's sister) After 39 days in ICU, Pina is now in the Ear Nose and Throat Ward at the Austin. Many specialists are working with her starting with the Ear Nose and Throat Specialist, as they will change her Tracheostomy to a smaller one, to then add the voice valve, which she has not been tolerating over the last 10 days. The Speech Pathologist is working closely with this also. The Physios  are working with her to improve her movement and strength, as she does not have strength on her left side. Healthcare workers and Occupational Therapists are also working with her.
We want to extend our thanks and appreciation to you all.

She is still struggling with the same issues as above, but is working hard with a Physio, a Speech Pathologist (she is having a smaller voice tracheostomy put in today) and a Dietician as she is on a softened food diet (yay to finally being able to eat food again after all of this time on a feeding tube).

Her family, friends and in particular her sister Dani have been at the hospital day in and day out helping her in every way possible, but at the end of the day, a substantial period of rehabilitation is going to be needed, this we now know for sure.

We really need to keep sharing the crap out of her page and get these funds up as we will be needing to start accessing them sooner rather than later, and will continue to need accessing them for a little while yet.

She is absolutely gobsmacked at the  incredible outpour of love and support that has been sent her way, and thanks you all for your thoughts.

Lets get Pina back on her feet - we could all use a Pina hug right now!

20/01/2021 - Emma here - one of Pina's oldest mates, just wanting to let you know that the money is SO unbelievably needed and that Pina's family are so grateful to you all!!!
So just to give you an idea of what it might all be for -
Currently we are looking at an incredible electric adjustable bed for her when she finally comes home to help her get in and out and also get really comfortable in bed!
If we can find a place that will deliver delicious home made meals of fresh, healthy and hearty foods, this will also be something we would like to be able to offer her. Along with some kind of transportation, whether it be Ubers/Taxi's to and from rehabilitation and eventually an appropriate vehicle, whether it takes to get our Peen's back on her feet.
We believe there will be a substantial period of rehabilitation so whatever the hospital doesn't offer, the money will be used to fill in the gaps.
We will do whatever it takes, and after she stood up yesterday with the help of a physio, we all believe with all of our hearts that she will get there!
She's one tough cookie!!!!
Her sister Dani has already accessed some to keep her comfortable in her hospital room for the remainder of her time there.

Keep sharing friends!!!!!
