The Healthcare Plug

Even though Black people make up roughly 13% of the U.S. population, less than 8% of U.S. physicians are Black. Almost daily, there is another news headline discussing the disheartening effects of racial injustice, not only in our streets, but in our healthcare system. Stories of Black lives being lost due to negligence are becoming a little too common, and these stories are instilling fear, hopelessness, desperation, and mistrust within our Black communities.

I started The Healthcare Plug because I am tired. I am tired of the fact that having health insurance is a privilege in this country. I am tired of Black and Brown bodies suffering for longer than they should have to, because they don't have the money to pay someone that will listen and comprehensively care for them. I am tired of my beautiful, Black sisters being afraid to have their babies in hospitals, because Black mothers and Black babies are not surviving. When they should be. I am tired of no one taking the time to be more patient with our elderly. And I am tired of sitting with the fact that our Black communities are vulnerable and disadvantaged, simply because we weren't taught about it, we don't know about it, and no one wants to tell us. I stopped believing that there was only "so much I could do since I'm just a pre-medical student". I decided that there's actually a lot I could be doing, including becoming an advocate for Black and Brown bodies. We deserve BETTER, and that's what we're going to give ourselves. Our Black physicians care. Our Black medical students care. Our Black nurses care. Our Black midwives, doulas, therapists, dentists, cardiologists, neurologists, OB/GYNs, plastic surgeons, optometrists, ENT specialists, social workers, and all the rest of our Black health professionals CARE.

It's time to be deliberate about embracing them, and vice versa.

The Healthcare Plug (THP) is a platform based in Atlanta, Georgia, that is dedicated to connecting every patient, especially those from marginalized communities, with healthcare specialists that value comprehensive care and can meet your unique needs. THP provides referral services, appointment scheduling, copay assistance, help with navigating insurance plans, and many other resources. In the near future, we would like to grant medical bill relief, cover the cost of patient prescriptions, and provide transportation to and from physician appointments! Our services are 100% FREE, because we know how difficult navigating the U.S. healthcare system can be. Your health is our priority, and we are passionate about eliminating as many barriers as possible, so that you can get the care you deserve!

The Healthcare Plug has already been charged by numerous health professionals to expand on a national level, and I have the utmost faith that this can and will be done.

For now, please consider donating so that THP can provide aid to Black and Brown bodies in and surrounding Metro Atlanta, to the fullest extent. If you're on this campaign page, chances are you already care about the quality of healthcare that Black people receive. A generous donation can help make the process of getting them access to that care, seamless.

Take a stand, and decide to have a hand in change that is long overdue.

Sincerely yours,
