The Garrison Project 2022

G'Day, The Garrison PROJECT 2022 has been established by The Vietnam Veterans and Veterans Motorcycle Club Inc. (Townsville Chapter).

The Chapter is raising funds to provide Veterans and current serving personnel a facility for assistance in Advocacy, Suicide Prevention and General Counselling, Emergency Accommodation for Homeless Veterans and expand our Veterans Workshop program.

‘Did You Know’ that every Night in the Townsville region, an average of 10 Australian Military Veterans are sleeping rough out on the streets and 1 in 10 homeless across Australia are Military Veterans….this is not acceptable!!!!

‘Did You Know’ that as of September 2021, 1,273 former and serving defence personnel have been ‘officially reported' to have taken their own lives since 2001.

The Chapter does not seek nor expect government funding. Still, with some unexpected assistance from the Townsville Office of The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), the Chapter has recently been able to establish a Veterans Workshop. We cater to all Veterans interested in Motorbikes, Cars and classes to improve upon current bike riding and safety awareness skills. All our programs are free and are funded by the Townsville Chapter.

With the kind permission of Doug and Kaye Baird, our Veterans Workshop, named ‘Cam’s Garage’, has been dedicated to the memory and honour of their son, Corporal Cameron Baird, Victoria Cross (VC), Medal of Gallantry (MG). Cameron was posthumously awarded the VC for his actions in the Uruzgan province of Afghanistan on the 22nd of June 2013.

We know times are tough, and we wouldn’t ask for donations if we could.

Please understand that every cent of your generous donation will go directly into helping Australian Military Veterans in need, not one red cent is spent on salaries, wages or promotion, and every bloody CENT helps!!
